Piero Umiliani (1926–2001) was a Florence-born composer of Italian film scores and library music, best known for Mah Nà Mah Nà.
Umiliani was born in Florence on 17 July 1926 and died in Rome on 14 February 2001. He scored many films of the 1960s and 1970s, among them spaghetti Westerns, Eurospy films, gialli and softcore films, with titles including Son of Django, Orgasmo, Five Dolls for an August Moon, Baba Yaga and The Slave. Mah Nà Mah Nà (1968) was first used in the documentary Sweden: Heaven and Hell, was popularised by The Red Skelton Show and The Muppets, and reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart in May 1977.
He formed the rock band Braen's Machine with Alessandro Alessandroni, and his library albums from 1971 to 1983 include Paesaggi, Synthi Time and Underground. His music has returned in later productions: Crepuscolo sul mare was used in Ocean's Twelve and Echi della natura on the soundtrack of Miss Lovely (2012). Schema's Bandcamp page lists a series of his records released in 2015 and 2016, among them Synthi Time, Psichedelica, Svezia Inferno e Paradiso, Suspense and The Folk Group.
