Aavistus is a biennial of audiovisual art and VJ culture in Helsinki, established in 2020 and organised by the non-profit Aavistus Festival association. Local VJs and audiovisual practitioners build a programme that brings Finnish and international artists together through performances, media art installations, video screenings and fulldome films. Projection mapping, workshops and talks also form part of its exploration of how moving images and sound are created and experienced. Each edition works with a theme: the 2024 programme, At the Interface, considered relationships between people and their environment, cultural and linguistic diversity, and ecological and social questions. Helsinki City Museum hosted interactive installations, discussions and family-oriented artworks as part of that edition. The festival combines public presentations with practical exchanges among artists, designers and people working with audiovisual technology.
