Dissonanze began in Rome in 2000 from an idea by Giorgio Mortari, bringing experimental electronic music into a programme that connected sound, digital art and architecture. During its original run, from 2000 to 2010, it used sites including the former wool mills of Pietralata, Palazzo dei Congressi, Chiostro del Bramante and Ara Pacis. Its archive includes Matmos, Ryoji Ikeda, Richie Hawtin, Charlemagne Palestine and collaborations between performance and electronic music. In 2025, MACRO presented One Day You’ll Understand, an exhibition reconstructing the festival through photographs, video, graphic material and recordings. A New Chapter followed at Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in 2026, with stages including the Cavea and park. That edition combined live acts and DJ sets, continuing a programme in which the spaces of the city are part of the encounter with the music.
