Insomnia is an electronic music festival in Tromsø, northern Norway, founded in 2002 as a meeting point for contemporary sounds above the Arctic Circle. Run as a non-profit event, it gives emerging artists and established performers space to develop experimental work, while supporting connections within the electronic music scene of the north. The autumn programme extends from live concerts and DJ sets to performances, exhibitions and installations. Public seminars, workshops and debates connect music with technology and design, placing discussion and practical exchange alongside the club programme. The organisation also works on collaborations throughout the year, including projects supporting artistic development beyond the main festival. Insomnia’s setting matters to this approach: it brings international artists into contact with a northern music community through both public performances and sustained collaborative work.
