Locus began in 2005 in the historic centre of Locorotondo, in Puglia’s Valle d’Itria. Its early programme concentrated on jazz and developments in Black music, and its subsequent editions have brought those interests into contact with electronic music, songwriting, rock and pop. The festival’s history includes Gil Scott-Heron, Herbie Hancock, Lauryn Hill and David Byrne, alongside producers and DJs such as Floating Points, Caribou, Nils Frahm and Theo Parrish. Robert Glasper has returned for several editions, reflecting relationships built over time rather than a fixed annual roster. Locorotondo remains a reference point, but the programme has expanded into other parts of Puglia, including Bari and the Adriatic coast. Concerts are accompanied by talks, film screenings and sound projects, connecting the music programme with the region’s towns and cultural spaces.
