Jamie Russell and Alex Jones founded Hypercolour in 2006 as a way to release their own music and recordings by friends. Shenoda, Tom Demac and Glimpse were early contributors; records such as Kris Wadsworth's Mainline and Maya Jane Coles' Hummingbird brought the project to a wider audience.

The catalogue later included Laurent Garnier, Groove Armada, Roman Flügel and Luke Vibert, whose Kerrier District project brought sample-based disco into the mix. House and techno remain recurring reference points, with releases by DMX Krew and Sebastian Mullaert adding other approaches to electronic production. Associated labels include Glass Table, Hype_LTD and Losing Suki. The founders began the label while DJing and organising parties in London.
