Mike Paradinas, also known as μ-Ziq, created Planet Mu in 1995.

Mike Paradinas, also known as μ-Ziq, created Planet Mu in 1995. It began under Virgin before becoming an independent label, with Paradinas' own recordings joined by work from Jega, Leafcutter John, Luke Vibert and Venetian Snares. The catalogue moved from IDM into jungle and breakcore, then developed strands of grime and dubstep through artists such as Vex'd, Boxcutter and Pinch.

The Bangs & Works compilations brought Chicago footwork to a wider international audience, including music by DJ Rashad and an early appearance by Jlin. Her subsequent albums, together with releases by Jana Rush and other producers, extended that relationship.
