Underground Resistance is a Detroit collective and label founded by Mike Banks and Jeff Mills, with Robert Hood central to its early recordings. Its political stance developed alongside the music: control of production and distribution, an opposition to corporate exploitation and a connection to Detroit's Black communities are part of the project.
Early releases such as Riot, Acid Rain and Jupiter Jazz place that approach within techno, while Galaxy 2 Galaxy's Hi-Tech Jazz and the Interstellar Fugitives compilation widen the vocabulary into jazz, electro and funk. DJ Rolando's The Knights of the Jaguar became another important point in the catalogue's history. Submerge provides an associated Detroit-based distribution and record-shop network.
