Kit Sebastian

Kit Sebastian is the duo of Kit Martin and Merve Erdem, formed in London. Their songs use English, Turkish and French and draw on Anatolian psychedelia, Brazilian Tropicalia, European pop and jazz. They record in rural France, using a varied instrumental setup, tube equipment and eight-track cassette tape. The duo also produces and directs its own film material.

Mr Bongo released Mantra Moderne in 2019 and Melodi in 2021. New Internationale appeared on Brainfeeder in 2024. Enkaz, released later that year, was written following the death of Erdem’s grandfather. The song was recorded directly to quarter-inch tape, with arrangements inspired by Egyptian recordings featuring Farfisa organ and guitar. Its accompanying video includes material from the UK and a journey between family homes in Istanbul.
