Leaving Laurel began as the collaboration of Pierce Fulton and Gordon Huntley, developing melodic electronic music from friendship, cassette experiments and time spent in Los Angeles’s Laurel Canyon.
Leaving Laurel began in late 2019 as a collaboration between American musician Pierce Fulton and Canadian producer Gordon Huntley. The two had been friends for years before recording together in Laurel Canyon. Their early sessions included experiments with cassette players. Anjunadeep released their self-titled debut in August 2021, after Fulton’s death, with the album dedicated to his memory.
Huntley subsequently returned to unfinished recordings from their sessions. These became part of when the quiet comes, released in 2023, using piano, percussion and melodic electronic arrangements. Pierce’s brother Griff Fulton joined the project and its DJ performances. Later releases include the disarm EP and a reinterpretation of sometimes it’s scary but it’s still just you and me for Anjunachill. The third album, our lives entwined, continued the project through Anjunadeep.
