Rex the Dog is British producer and illustrator Jake Williams, formerly known as JX, recording electronic music and performing with a self-built modular synthesizer.
Jake Williams first released as JX in the 1990s and also worked as Mekka and in Planet Perfecto. He introduced Rex the Dog with Prototype and Frequency on Kompakt in 2004. Those early recordings used a Korg 700S synthesizer, and Williams created the cartoon artwork associated with the project. Further singles appeared through Kompakt and Kitsuné.
The Rex the Dog Show, his first album under the name, appeared in 2008. His remix catalogue includes Robyn, Fever Ray and Röyksopp, while collaborations include Kris Menace and DJ Haus. Williams later developed a self-built modular system for live performance. His continuing Kompakt releases include Change This Pain for Ecstasy and Laika, with remixes providing additional versions of the original recordings.
