The Juan MacLean

John MacLean played guitar in Six Finger Satellite before developing an electronic recording project through his friendship with James Murphy. DFA released early singles including Give Me Every Little Thing, followed by the album Less Than Human in 2005. Nancy Whang became a central vocalist and collaborator in the project, alongside her work with LCD Soundsystem.

The Future Will Come followed in 2009 and In a Dream in 2014, with more extensive synth-pop and vocal arrangements. MacLean also maintains a DJ practice, and the catalogue includes club singles outside the albums. The Brighter the Light collected recordings in 2019. Live lineups have included Jerry Fuchs, Eric Broucek and Nicholas Millhiser. The project’s releases remain closely associated with DFA.
