upsammy

upsammy is Dutch musician and DJ Thessa Torsing. She played violin and guitar before learning to DJ at raves around Amsterdam, then studied Image and Media Technology in Utrecht. A SoundCloud upload led to releases through Nous’klaer Audio, beginning with Another Place in 2018. Wild Chamber followed in 2019. She held residencies at De School, Garage Noord and NTS Radio.

Dekmantel released Zoom in 2020, while Germ in a Population of Buildings appeared on PAN in 2023. Strange Meridians followed on topo2 in 2024 and was presented in an audiovisual live format. Torsing uses field recordings, voice fragments, keyboard melodies and electronic sound design in her productions. In interviews, she describes photography, walking and collected visual material as part of that process. Her DJ sets respond to club settings, while her compositions also include ambient and non-dance pieces.
