Ron Morelli founded L.I.E.S., short for Long Island Electrical Systems, in 2010. The label emerged from Brooklyn's electronic music community and became associated with the term outsider house, although its recordings also include techno, electro, ambient pieces and more abrasive electronic work. Early contributors included Delroy Edwards, Terekke, Marcos Cabral and Steve Moore.

Gunnar Haslam, Shawn O'Sullivan, Legowelt, Randomer and Tzusing appear elsewhere in the catalogue. Early vinyl releases circulated through independent record shops, including Hard Wax in Berlin.
