LCD Soundsystem
LCD Soundsystem is the New York group founded by James Murphy in 2002, releasing through DFA and combining rock instrumentation with electronic production and dance rhythms.
James Murphy introduced LCD Soundsystem with Losing My Edge in 2002, through the DFA label he co-founded. The project became a live band with musicians including Nancy Whang, Pat Mahoney and Tyler Pope. The self-titled debut album appeared in 2005, followed by the extended recording 45:33, Sound of Silver in 2007 and This Is Happening in 2010.
The band ended its initial run with a Madison Square Garden concert in 2011. That performance was documented in Shut Up and Play the Hits and the live album The Long Goodbye. LCD Soundsystem resumed activity in 2015 and released American Dream in 2017. Its song Tonite won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. Murphy’s recording work and the band’s concerts continue alongside their relationship with DFA.
